Keeping Your Skin Healthy
You might find it harder to mantain healthy skin in puberty. This is because there is an increase of oil in your body, sweat glands in your armpits and in your groin will become more active during puberty. You'll find that if these sweat glands are not washed and kept clean regularly then the paws on the skin will clog and cause the dreaded - pimples!
If you have a healthy body you will have healthy skin. That means you must eat a healthy and balanced diet, exercise regularly and recieve an appropriate amout of sleep for your body's needs. Washing your body daily with warm water and soap will keep it clean. To minimise the chance of pimples it is reccommended that you wash your face twice a day - in the morning and at night. You should develop a routine for cleaning your face, this should include - cleansing, toning, moisturising and only if nesassary - treatment in particular areas.
Cleansing- This is to clean of any dirt or oil that may clog up pores. They also kill bacteria that may have caused a problem.
Toning - Toners help to keep the pores fresh and clean, they prevent pimples from forming too. If you do this regularly it will make your skin feel and look well.
Moisturising - Moisturising will help to keep your skin smooth and soft. It will stop it from drying out.
Treatment - This is the final step. The treatment will do deeper into the skin and stop pimples before they start.
Pimples
You get pimples in puberty due to the large amout of released oil on the skin. This can be avoided with healthy skin. Adults rarely get pimples and if they do, it is only due to stress or imbalanced hormones. There are two types of pimples, whiteheads and blackheads. A blackhead appears when a pore gets clogged and it contacts with the air. A whitehead forms when oil is trapped under the skin, it can not make contact with the air therefore it builds up and forms a bump.
Sweat
As a child, you would see that your sweat did not smell. Now your sweat will give out body odour, also known as BO. Products can be worn to decrease the amout of sweat release, this is called anti- perspirants. Wearing clean clothes and showering daily can improve the situation too. Deodorants will not remove the sweat, it only covers up the BO.
