During puberty you will go through many different social changes. They will determine who you are and what you stand for. You might find different friends and will become more likely to be spending time with them then your family. Your interests might changes too, and your love life might become more important to you. Here are some changes to watch out for:
Looking for an identity- During puberty you will go though a stage of searching for who you are. You will want to know where you belong and where you stand. You will think more about what is right and wrong, choosing different paths of religion, beliefs, idols and many other things too. You might choose to become a vegetarian or even a tree hugger
New independence- You will probably begin to be more individual. You won't always exactly want to be around the family an prefer to go be with friends. You will start to believe that you are undefeatable and do not need people like your parents watching your every move. Being an individual is an essential skill in life and will take some time to learn
Being more responsible- As you go through puberty you will want to be more responsible and take matters into your own. You will believe that you don't need your parents assistance or guidance and do everything yourself.
Wanting new experiences- You will begin to look for new experiences during puberty. Mostly social experiences that are more 'risk taking'.
Influenced more by friends- The way you think and act will begin to be more influenced by your friends. You will probably care more about others opinions than your own. What the latest thing is will suddenly become what you most desire. Your friends will often peer pressure you into doing things so when this happens it is best to take a step back and think about the consequences. When you see someone else, you might compare yourself to them either judging or admiring. The person you are will be heavily influenced by the others around you.
Communicating in different ways- You will definitely begin to communicate in different ways. No more letters or postcard. Messaging others through electronics will be the only way. Some common examples are Skype, mobile text, Facebook or even a video call. Social media and 24 hour access online can be very addicting and hard to look away from, and with more ways to communicate being invented everyday. The way you communicate can have a bigger impact on your daily life.
EMOTIONAL CHANGES
During puberty some think that emotional changes are no big deal. Whereas the people that surround you will probably not being looking forward to it. Your emotions will become very sensitive so you could explode any second. They way you think and feel will become a very unsteady balance. Here are some Emotion changes to look out for.
Showing stronger feelings- a variety of intense emotions that can happen at any times. Theses emotional 'mood swings' often lead to fights and conflicts. Learning to express your emotions more maturely is still going on inside your brain.
Being more sensitive to others emotions- During puberty you might misread others emotions or body language. You will get better at reading these emotions as you get older.
Being more self-conscious- Whilst going through puberty you might become more self-conscious about your body image or physical appearance. You will often have a low self-esteem so it is important to have a positive self-worth about yourself. Your self-esteem is mostly effected by how others or yourself think you look or act. As a teenager you will compare your body to others around.
Being bulletproof- This is a stage of how you think and act. You might not think about the consequences of your choices, and not always have the best decision making skills. You think you are unstoppable and take unnecessary risks. This is because you are still developing and learning about consequences of your actions. You will make many mistakes and bad choices, though it is just best to learn from your lesson and carry on.
Sexual feelings- When you hit puberty there will be a stage when you begin to feel more sexual feelings for the other sex and become more interested. The other gender may suddenly become more attractive than you would've though before. To please these sexual feelings you can choose to masturbate. When you reach puberty and become a homosexual, which is completely normal, the sexual feelings will be for the same gender.
